Hello Renewable City Team!

The Launch:

After a summer of canvassing in Ottawa-Centre, we are switching over to focus our efforts to the Ottawa-Vanier riding to stop the Energy East Pipeline and otherwise participate in the conversation about climate change actions in Canada.

To kick off outreach in the Ottawa-Vanier riding, please join us on Thursday, October 20 for the LOWERTOWN CANVASS LAUNCH! We will have a quick meeting and training session for anyone who has questions about the strategy or about canvassing, and then we'll start knocking on doors in Lowertown (near the Byward Market)!

Canvassing will continue weekly throughout the riding, not only in Lowertown (Jen is the canvass lead), but we've also already started in the Forbes/Cummings/Cyrville area of the riding (Frank is the canvass lead there), and will also continue engagement in Stittsville (with Mike).

Why Ottawa-Vanier?

Ottawa-Vanier (which includes the Byward Market, Lowertown, Sandy Hill, New Edinburgh, Rockcliffe, Overbrook, Beach Hill North, etc) will be holding two by-elections in the new year, since both the provincial and federal seats are currently vacant. Those seats were held by the same people for around 20 years each, and this is an opportunity for us to influence who steps into the MP and MPP roles next, to educate the voters on the stance of each candidate, and to ensure that during the election period we get their word that they will be leaders who will stand up for the environmental and social needs of Ottawa residents, including not building a bitumen-carrying pipeline through our watershed!

Next Steps:

Everyone is invited to this canvass kick-off in Lowertown, even if you are new to the group, or if you will generally focus your volunteer time in the Cyrville or Stittsville areas, or by phone or other contribution. It would be great to see the whole team together so we can all meet each other before we each get down to our tasks!

Throughout the winter we'll have outreach throughout the riding in the form of events (indoor!) and via telephone. If you can't make it on Oct 20, please ensure you are on the "Renewable City" email list to be informed of other canvasses and events in the coming weeks and months.

Thanks!
