By now you're familiar with the proposed TransCanada pipeline that would see 850,000 barrels a day - that's 100 million litres - of Tar Sands oil passing through the City of Ottawa and the Rideau River. (For more information, check out our Tar Free 613 site.)
You may also be familiar with some of our efforts to halt that pipeline. Maybe you've even helped get the word out, by hanging up doorknockers, or posting about the pipeline on social media. We'd like to invite you to be even more involved.
Next week, August 6th, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Sandy Hill Community Centre we will be holding a second information and strategy session on the proposed pipeline and how we propose to stop it.
Even if you missed the first session, you're still invited to attend this session, where we will give an update on the project, on our efforts to mobilize opposition, and how you can be involved.
Already, our teams of incredible volunteers have distributed over 9,000 door-hangers on homes across the city, and collected nearly 2,000 names on our petition. Still, we have a long way to go to make sure everyone in the city is informed about this, and has their chance to speak out.
Please join us on August 6thand find out more about what we can do to take action.
Sandy Hill Community Centre can be reached by the #16 bus, which stops in front, or from the University of Ottawa bus stop, which is a short 5 minute walk away. There is free parking at the rear of the building off of Sweetland Ave.
